About Us

At TalkingPoints, we believe something simple yet powerful: every family wants the best for their child—and when families and schools work together with trust and intention, incredible things happen.

We’re a nonprofit education technology organization on a mission to unlock every student’s potential by activating one of the most underutilized forces in education: effective family engagement.

Our platform brings the principles of Universal Family Engagement to life by removing barriers and building trust-based, two-way partnerships—regardless of a family’s language, background, or circumstance. We equip educators with tools, guidance, and confidence to connect with every family with empathy and purpose.

Our story

Heejae Lim founded TalkingPoints based on her experience growing up as a Korean immigrant student and seeing her mother make a difference in her education because she had the ‘voice’ to do so. Every parent’s love for their children is universal; the difference between Heejae’s mother and her friends’ parents wasn’t love, but the skills and tools to partner with their children’s schools.

Our mission

Our mission is to drive student success by unlocking the superpower of families to fuel their children’s learning. We do this by building effective family-school partnerships through accessible technology.

Our vision

We imagine a world where every student, regardless of their background, has the support they need to thrive. That starts with making family engagement a core pillar of the education system, built on trust, consistency, and shared goals.

When families and educators work together—not just occasionally, but as a practice—the impact is transformational. For students. For educators. For communities.

Our history

TalkingPoints began with a simple belief: every family deserves the opportunity to meaningfully engage in their child’s education.

Since 2014, that belief has grown into a national movement—powering over 1 billion conversations, supporting more than 9 million family members, educators, and students each year, and earning the trust of 1 in 4 schools and districts across the U.S.
